142 years old, NCMH Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital has achieved a ton of achievements

BOGOR - With the theme Moving Forward Together Achieving Achievement, the National Center for Mental Health (PKJN) Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital commemorates its 142nd birthday. This warning was attended by directors, management and all employees at the KPPA Field, PKJN at Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital, Bogor, Wednesday (10/7/2024).

At this commemoration, the Director of Health Service Governance of the Ministry of Health, Sunarto, was also present and directly inaugurated the Perinatal Mental Health Center service while also giving appreciation to PKJN Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital for being able to create a service innovation.

"In the past, we often felt that mental hospitals were only for those with mental disorders, but look, now they can even develop into Perinatal Mental Health Centers. We can see that service innovation is important. We can no longer feel that mental hospitals will not develop because of the stigma," he said.

Sunarto added that PKJN Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital has succeeded in developing services that were previously unimaginable as a mental hospital, by integrating psychiatric health services with maternal and child services which can reduce maternal and infant mortality and stunting in Indonesia.

"All my friends at Marzoeki Mahdi really have the potential to develop services that we never thought about before. Have you ever imagined that there was Perinatal Mental Health? Look now, we never imagined that Marzoeki Mahdi as a mental health hospital could participate in services to prevent stunting," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PKJN Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital, Nova Riyanti Yusuf, in her speech appreciated the achievements that have been able to increase various innovations in accordance with the Ministry of Health's vertical hospital transformation with benchmarking and sister hospital cooperation. Several MOUs have been signed with foreign institutions.

“With King's College London, we have developed the Perinatal Mental Health Center service. Hopefully it can be replicated nationally as a specific health program Maternal and Child Health Clinic which is part of the Network of Community-Based Mental Health Services Model framework in accordance with the WHO World Mental Health Report 2022. Mental hospitals are being transformed into general hospitals with mental health excellence, so that mental health treatment no longer only focuses on mental health which is not integrated with physical health services," she said.

The next stage with King's College London will be to conduct a survey of mental health problems among pregnant women in the PKJN RSMM catch area. Two questionnaire instruments from King's College London will be validated and used. PKJN RSMM will involve general practitioners and midwives at community health centers and communities to take an active role.

At PKJN RSMM itself there is a PONEK room in the emergency room, a delivery room, an operating room for Cesarean section, a perinatology room, and so on. The human resources are also complete, consisting of specialist obstetricians and gynecologists, specialist internal medicine doctors, pediatricians, adolescent child psychiatry consultants, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, and others. What is still being developed is the Mother Baby Unit which has been witnessed directly by the PKJN RSMM Team and the Director General of Health Care at the Ministry of Health in London, England. The Mother Baby Unit was previously developed by the National Institute of Mental Health Sri Lanka with assistance from King's College London.

In the future, this collaboration with King's College London also opens up opportunities to explore the development of a "Digital Mental Health" course so that people who care about mental health and want to help through various social media platforms can have adequate mental health literacy. Discussions have been held with Global Business Development King's College London.

Another collaboration that has been fostered by PKJN RSMM is an MOU with Sawa Hospital Japan for the development of an existing Integrated Geriatric Center at PKJN RSMM and will be optimized into a Dementia Center. Psychiatrists and neurologists from PKJN RSMM have been dispatched to observe the integration of dementia services in hospitals and the community. Through an MOU with the Institute of Mental Health Singapore, PKJN RSMM is trying to design a mental health unit that must exist in 837 government public hospitals throughout Indonesia. These units include the Short-Stay Unit, handling acute cases that require crisis intervention within 72 hours. PKJN RSMM has also handled cases of online gambling addiction with outpatient and inpatient treatment at the Drug and Non-Substance Addiction Rehabilitation Installation. PKJN RSMM will develop a non-substance addiction service model through an MOU with Kurihama Medical & Addiction Center in Japan.
