BOGOR – Director General of Advanced Healthcare at the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Azhar Jaya, reviewed the progress of the genebank construction project located within the premises of RS Marzoeki Mahdi, Bogor, on Monday (18/05/2026).

During the visit, Azhar was accompanied by President Director of RS Marzoeki Mahdi, Nova Riyanti Yusuf, and Head of BB Binomika, Indri Rooslamiati.

The visit aimed to directly observe the development progress of the genebank facility, which is projected to become a center for precision medicine technology development in Indonesia.

In his statement, Azhar explained that the building’s foundation work is nearly complete. He expressed hope that construction would continue according to schedule so that the topping-off stage could be achieved by mid-July.

“Today I am at the location where the Indonesian Genebank will eventually stand. We can see that almost all of the foundation work has been completed. Hopefully, by mid-July at the latest, we can reach the topping-off stage,” he said.

He emphasized that the future presence of the Indonesian Genebank would represent a major leap forward for the nation in advancing genetic-based treatment technology and precision medicine.

“When this building becomes operational, it will mark the biggest leap for our nation in achieving future treatment technology and precision medicine, namely the utilization of genes for the benefit of Indonesian society and the advancement of scientific knowledge,” he stated.

Azhar also expressed hope that the construction process would proceed smoothly and provide significant benefits for the development of national healthcare services.

“Please pray that this project can be completed successfully, function properly, and be built well by PT Brantas Abipraya as one of our state-owned enterprises,” he added.

Furthermore, he revealed that the RS Marzoeki Mahdi area is expected to undergo a major transformation in the future, including its development into a general hospital as well as a teaching hospital for the Faculty of Medicine at IPB University in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

“In the future, the RS Marzoeki Mahdi area will transform into a general hospital and become the teaching hospital for the Faculty of Medicine at IPB. We are planning a large-scale development. Hopefully, within the next two years, an IPB Faculty of Medicine teaching hospital in collaboration with the Ministry of Health will be established here,” he explained.

This development is expected to become an important milestone in advancing genomic research and the implementation of precision medicine in Indonesia, while also strengthening the ecosystem of education, research, and healthcare services based on genomic technology in the future. (R)
