Reviving the Example of Marzoeki Mahdi

BOGOR - The board of directors, management, and hospital community of the National Mental Health Center (PKJN) of Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital together held a joint prayer and scattered flowers at the grave of Dr. Marzoeki Mahdi at TPU Blender, Kebon Pedes, Tanah Sareal, Bogor, on Tuesday (11/5/2024). This event is part of a series of commemorations of the 60th National Health Day, which arouses the spirit of remembering and continuing the struggle of the mental health figure and national hero, Dr. Marzoeki Mahdi.

The President Director of PKJN Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital, Nova Riyanti Yusuf, said that this activity was a moment of reflection to remember the important role of Dr. Marzoeki Mahdi not only in the field of mental health, but also in the national struggle. "We reflect on what has been done by health heroes in the past. Dr. Marzoeki Mahdi, for example, not only fought in the field of national health, but also participated in the national movement as a member of Boedi Oetomo," she said.

Furthermore, Nova added that the example of Dr. Marzoeki became an inspiration to make a greater contribution in advancing mental health in Indonesia. "We want to make him a role model and continue his struggle for the next generation at Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital and health in general in Indonesia."

Profile of dr. Marzoeki Mahdi: A Hero and Pioneer of Mental Health

dr. Marzoeki Mahdi was born in Koto Gadang, Bukit Tinggi, West Sumatra on April 13, 1894, and graduated from the School tot Opleiding van Indische Artsen (STOVIA) in Batavia in 1918. As a graduate of STOVIA, he was not only known as a doctor, but also as a movement activist, who joined the Boedi Oetomo organization. His love for the nation was reflected in his role as a fighter for health and independence.

Dr. Marzoeki's dedicated life is also remembered by the surrounding community, including in the Empang area, Bogor City, where his legacy in the form of a German-made Junghans brand cabinet clock is still displayed in the Empang Grand Mosque as a memory of his character and religiosity.
