The Importance of Diagnostic Accuracy for Patient Safety

BOGOR - The National Mental Center for Mental Health (PKJN) of Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital held a webinar to commemorate World Patient Safety Day with the theme "Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety". This activity took place online, on Thursday (10/17/2024), and was attended by more than 200 participants.

The President Director of PKJN Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital who was the main speaker at this webinar, Nova Riyanti Yusuf, emphasized the importance of cooperation to ensure safety in the diagnosis process.

"Efforts to improve safe diagnosis are our shared responsibility. Every patient must receive a timely diagnosis, and they have the right to a second opinion if needed," she said.

Nova also highlighted the importance of collaboration between health workers, the importance of utilizing technology, and providing open information to patients and families.

The importance of patient safety through correct diagnostics was also conveyed by the Chair of the Quality Committee, Sri Andayani, who said that diagnostic safety is a crucial component in patient safety.

"Diagnostic safety needs to be implemented to minimize the risk of errors in the diagnostic process," she said.

He also emphasized that appropriate policies must be integrated into all levels of health services so that patients receive accurate and timely diagnoses. According to him, prioritizing patient safety can improve the quality of health services and reduce the incidence of preventable injuries.

Other speakers who provided material at this webinar were the Director of Medical and Nursing Rahmi Handayani, Head of the Medical Committee Yuniar P. Kusuma, and Neurologist Zainal Arifin. In this event, the speakers emphasized that improving patient safety is not only the task of medical personnel, but also requires the active involvement of patients and their families.
