Two Doctors from Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital Assigned for Comparative Study to Japan

OSAKA - For developing integrated geriatric services, two specialist doctors from the National Center for Mental Health (PKJN) Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital, Yuniar Pukuk Kesuma and Putu Lohita Rahmawati, conducted a comparative study at Sawa Mental Health Hospital, Osaka, Japan, Thursday-Tuesday (23- 28/5/2024).

The meeting was chaired by the Director of Sawa Hospital, Minoru Sawa, and attended by the Sawa Hospital dementia service team consisting of a psychogeriatric consultant psychiatrist, neurologist, social worker and geriatric nurse.

Sawa Hospital was chosen as the destination for the mock study because it has committed to becoming a sister hospital for PKJN Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital with Minoru Sawa as a member of its International Board of Advisors.

"Apart from that, Sawa Hospital is one of the hospitals in the Osaka area that is successful with dementia services, empowering the elderly, including community services for the elderly, something that PKJN also aspires to achieve," said Putu, who is a neurologist at PKJN Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital. .

Meanwhile, according to Yuniar, after this comparative study, it is hoped that the Graha Ismaya Integrated Geriatric Service Center will be strengthened with comprehensive dementia services, starting from the process of establishing a definite diagnosis of dementia, comprehensive multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient dementia clinical services, as well as community services for dementia patients.

"We also see ECT services and metacognition therapy in the form of providing education to overcome negative thoughts, the most prominent and comprehensive of which is therapy carried out by occupational therapists as part of preventing dementia and processing the thoughts and activities of elderly people to remain active," said the psychiatrist subspecialist in psychogeriatrics.

According to Putu, they got many things from this activity. Based on her observations, Sawa Hospital runs a comprehensive dementia service program, starting from dementia prevention programs through cognition methods, dementia enforcement and clinical therapy for dementia and BPSD, to rehabilitative processes carried out, both in hospitals and communities. Sawa Hospital always accompanies its dementia patients, especially those who live alone or have complex socio-economic problems through the outreach program "The Orange Team" which is fully supported by the Osaka City Government.

"It was truly an insightful experience for us to be able to come and see the process at Sawa Hospital. "Thank you for the opportunity given by the President Director and hopefully it can be implemented at PKJN RSMM, of course with the full support of management and the Ministry of Health," she concluded.
